THANKS FOR THE LIEBSTER AWARD NOMINATION! TIME TO PAY IT FORWARD…
I am incredibly thankful for being nominated for the Liebster Award by two different but awesome bloggers. For those that aren’t aware, the Liebster Award is intended to recognize newer bloggers for their impact on the blogging community. It’s also a great chance to build connections to strengthen the sense of community.
So, I first want to say a big thank you to Chyna from Southern Shaped and Ruth from Life of Plenty (sadly, she’s no longer blogging!) for nominating me. I enjoyed checking out both of their pages and recommend that you do too! With each nomination comes some Q&A to help you learn a bit more about me.
SOUTHERN SHAPED ASKED:
WHERE ARE YOU FROM AND WHERE DO YOU LIVE NOW?
I grew up near Chicago in the Midwest USA. After a whole lot of moving around, I’m currently using Minnesota as a homebase.
SINGLE? MARRIED? KIDS? PETS?
Single, with one very cute and confident dog-baby. He’s a two year old boston terrier named Hank.
IF YOU COULD VISIT ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD, WHERE WOULD IT BE? WOULD YOU LIKE TO LIVE THERE?
I really don’t have a Bucket List because I fall in love with everywhere I visit. Instead, I’ve created a Nectar List which is a list of the meaningful experiences I’ve had in my life!
WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO START A BLOG? IS IT EVERYTHING YOU DREAMED OF SO FAR?
Photography and travel are both passions of mine. I always told myself that if I left my career to go back to school, I’d take the time to start a blog to share my passion with others. I’m loving every single minute of it!
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MOVIE? WHY?
Oh man, this is a hard question! I’d probably have to go with the one I watch the most often which is National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation because my family watches it together every Christmas.
LIFE OF PLENTY ASKED:
WHAT DROVE YOU TO START YOUR BLOG?
Last fall I left my 13-year career to go back to school for my Master’s degree. I had promised myself that if I ever did that, I’d take the time to share my passions of travel and photography by creating my own blog!
WHAT IS YOUR DAILY INSPIRATION SOURCE?
I love photography, so discovering new travel photographers to follow on Instagram is incredibly inspiring to me. I particularly love candid and portrait photography featuring people from all different cultures.
WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY WORKING TO IMPROVE FOR YOURSELF OR YOUR BLOG?
Aside from roughly everything? 🙂 I’m most focused on the quality of my writing and understanding SEO right now.
WHAT ESTABLISHED BLOGGER DO YOU MOST ADMIRE?
I know this is probably cheating, but I don’t think I can pick just one. I love the storytelling and photography of @allisonmayerwsa, she is a humanitarian photojournalist.
WHERE DO YOU SEE YOUR BLOG IN 5 YEARS?
I think I’m still defining that. Right now it’s a creative outlet and an avenue to connect with a like-minded community of really talented people. So, I will measure my success by the quality of the relationships I build with both readers and fellow bloggers.
BEST ADVICE FOR SOMEONE WANTING TO START A BLOG?
Don’t underestimate how much work starting a blog can be. It can feel overwhelming, but leverage the blogging community to make your blog come to life! Also, there is someone out there that wants to hear what you have to say. So figure out what you’re passionate about and then write about that! You’ll find your audience.
For anyone who reads my blog regularly, you know that I love performing random acts of kindness. What I love about being nominated is that I get to pay it forward by nominating other bloggers. Here are my nominees:
For anyone who needs some inspiration as they face or recover from a major health scare, the Enlightened Survivor is just the blog for you. I love how Jade shares her story about her battle with endometriosis in an incredibly vulnerable way. She’s taken her experience and channeled her energy into being thankful for every moment and inspiring others to lead a healthy lifestyle!
I chose Memoirs and Musings because I like that it’s different than most blogs. It’s a combination of actual life experiences (memoirs) and the author’s thoughts on a whole bunch of topics (musings). As someone who has visited London many times, I love the perspectives she shares on life in London. The authors writes with a light-hearted sense of humor and keeps her posts short and to the point (which I appreciate).
Coco Voyage, written by Cristina Gundrun, shares her advice and opinions on “comfortable” off the beaten path travel on a budget. Cristina explains that while she may be on a budget, she doesn’t use couchsurfing or hitchhike (hence the “comfortable”). I can relate to this mindset when it come to travel! Most of her posts are about Central America, though she’s from Belgium and has lived in several other countries.
The blogger behind Vaggabondish describes herself as a “New York girl with a soft heart and a hard head” 🙂 In her quest to break free from the 9-5 she’s in the process of launching her own travel business later this summer. This blog is a travel blog that focuses less on specific destinations but more on finding your own travel style and resources to help you plan your trips!
Erin Reki is a blog with the subtitle “Travel. Art. Nonsense.” I love the quirkiness of this blog. It is more than just a travel blog, she shares her cartoons, art and advice all inspired by her travels. If you’re a creative mind, a traveller, or looking for something unique, I highly recommend this blog!
If you’re looking for a lifestyle blog with some heartfelt and reflective posts mixed in, Katsomething is worth checking out. I personally really enjoyed her “Thoughts” section, including posts such as “25 Things I’ve Learned To Accept About Myself” and “Being Introverted Does Not Mean Anti-Social”.
Unbreakable Joy Intuition Tales shares a blogger’s journey to learn to follow her own intuition. She writes about the loss of her Mother and how she honors her presence today. I particularly enjoyed her series of posts about her exploration of kindness and self-love.
Those who follow my blog likely know that I keep a home base and travel often throughout the year. Malia’s Passport caught my attention because she does the same! Her posts feature Switzerland, Thailand, and travel tips. As an avid blog reader for years, she’s recently decided to return the favor and share her own advice!
Finding Fibro shares the struggles of living with chronic and mental illnesses as well as the blogger’s weightloss journey. I find her posts very relatable, vulnerable and honest. I recommend this blog to anyone facing similar challenges!
Merry Go Round Slowly is written by Ana from Lithuania. I particularly enjoyed her post on Montenegro and her story about getting married 3 times in one year (to the same man). Her blog shares both general travel tips for a location as well as specifics and some off the beaten path ideas!
